The Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB), a premier institute under Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) here on Monday. 

The Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB), a premier institute under Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) here on Monday.

According to the MoU, the three institutes would evolve collaborative research projects of clinical relevance that should reduce the disease-burden of the masses.

Dr Rakesh Mishra, Director, CSIR-CCMB said that the role of basic science with already existing expertise in the frontier areas of modern biology with state-of-the-art facilities will be an advantage to team up with clinicians of NIMS to develop strategies in identifying, preventing and ultimately curing the rare diseases,

cardiomyopathies, obesity, diabetes, sickle cell anaemia, and malaria. He has also expressed to conduct new training programmes with faculty of both the institutes to train young people to make them industry-ready in the areas of cell biology, forensics and bioinformatics.

In this connection, an interactive meeting was organised by Dr Rakesh Mishra, Director, CSIR-CCMB along with his scientists with NIMS delegation of clinicians led by Dr K Manohar, Director, NIMS, Hyderabad.

Dr K Manohar, Director, Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) said that the institute received a facility grant to develop state-of-the-art facility for patient care.

NIMS is going to host this building complex with clean room facilities for stem cell culture, bone marrow and stem cell transplantation with 16 ICU beds and a dedicated lab for bone marrow transplantation.

He added that the Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekar Rao, Dr Laxma Reddy, state health minister responded positively to the initiatives to develop NIMS as apex centre for advance diagnostics to cater all advanced diagnostic needs for the entire state of Telangana and is hoping that this facility will be fully functional by next year.

In the process of this MoU for next five years, both CSIR-CCMB and NIMS will work together to develop deliverables for patient health care.
