Icon Art Gallery is presenting an exhibition titled ‘Ready Made’ by artist KV Shivkumar on February 25.

The changing world has given rise to many concepts that are interspersed with surreal and mystic undertones. Artist Shivkumar uses collage techniques, to cut paste pointers and signage that reflect the erratic and unpredictable nature of the times we live in.

It’s all about what looks small and become larger than life or what could become insignificant over a towering personality. These miniature collages involve social concerns, cultural shifts, cinema stills and popular imagery.

An element of wit and satire are underlying binders that may or may not have a narrative but reflect the unpredictable change of our times.

The process involved in this artwork includes cutting images from newspapers and magazines, the Dadaist approach to build an aesthetic from ‘Ready Made’ or readily available mediums that carry bits and pieces of contemporary life and living.

To break down the photographic flatness, elements like stencil, drawing or textures are used in some pieces of the art, its exaggeration making up the intensity of the visual appeal.

The works also are a reflection of the advancement of modern technology juxtaposed against the rural past. It’s a conflict and contradiction of the past and present in an unknown future zone.
