A milk vendor the other day rejected the Rs 10 coin stating that there is no rupee symbol on it. He said that the coin with the rupee symbol is legally tender and the one without symbol is a fake.

Surprisingly, the coin without rupee symbol was minted in 2009 when the rupee symbol was not even introduced. The rupee symbol was introduced only in 2013.

When contacted a bank official remarked that the people should not reject to take the coins and it is high time criminal cases are filed against the persons for rejecting the coins.
