Hyderabad-based Halal Laboratories launched a Sodium Lauryl Sulphate (SLS)-free toothpaste on Friday. Branded as Dento Halal, the toothpaste is aimed at levitating oral care standards with its vegan formula.

Addressing a press conference after the launch, Dr Najm Rehan, CEO and MD of Halal Laboratories said, “Nearly 97 per cent of the products in the market have SLS. Halal Labs is the first in India to produce SLS-free products.

Most commercially available toothpastes contain SLS – a material extracted from the remains of animal bones. We wanted to have something that’s purer and free from these animal extracts.”

“Also, ingredients like SLS are a major cause for knee pain, back pain and other health ailments,” he added. Dr Rehan said that the toothpaste contains neem, kalonji, illaichi, laung, miswaak and babool. “Dento Halal toothpaste acts as treatment for teeth and gum problems,” he said.

Priced at Rs 97, the toothpaste is available for 15 per cent discount in Ramadan.
