Late Prof S Nagarajan’s book ‘Shakespeare’s King Lear’ was launched recently at Saptaparni, Hyderabad. This new edition brings Indian perspectives to the world stage while thoroughly integrating western scholarship on this mighty play.

On the occasion Dr Sukanta Chaudhuri, Professor Emeritus of Jadavpur University, Kolkata, spoke both about the edition and about the extraordinary generosity that characterised Professor Nagarajan, a scholar had who groomed many generations of scholars in English and Comparative Studies.

At the event, Professor Nagarajan's students from Pune, Hyderabad and Mauritius shared memories of Nagarajan's shaping influence on them as teacher, mentor, and parent figure. The evening included a dramatic reading by ‘The Little Theatre’, Hyderabad, and a moving enactment of the final scenes of the play by Dramanon.

Even people who did not know Nagarajan during his lifetime said they left wishing they had the opportunity and those who had known him felt his presence in their midst.
