The play ‘The Unspeakable’ was staged recently in the city as a part of ‘Theatre Weekend’ by Qadir Ali Baig Theatre Foundation. Renowned actor Avijit Dutt penned the play and also directed and acted in it.

‘The Unspeakable’ showcases that creative freedom and right to dissent are under threat and narrates the existing socio-political system. The 50-minute play explains how freedom of speech and expression in the country is constantly under attack every day.

The play starts with Avijit, the protagonist, who narrates about his birth land and his character. He talks about how the rich families in the South were trying to double their money, and at the same time, he talks about the people from the North-East, who are struggling to survive a living.

Through this, he explained the regional disparity in the country. On the other hand, in his fantasy world, the protagonist talks about the undivided Bengal and explained the situations which happened after the bifurcation. When he moved to Delhi, he called it ‘Rape Capital’.

He also depicted that he watched the Gau Rakshaks and Anti-Romeo movements in Delhi and how people remain silent. Avijit Dutt mesmerised the audience with his extraordinary gestures and facial expressions. The audience was in awe of his flawless and impeccable performance.
