City-based Dr B Hygriv Rao, Director Pacing & Electrophysiology KIMS Hospitals received the honour of giving a lecture at the Asia Pacific Heart Rhythm society (APHRS) and Japanese Heart Rhythm society in Japan recently. Dr Rao spoke on ‘A structured protocol involving radiofrequency ablation’, which he designed.

“Ventricular Tachycardia is a dangerous arrhythmia where the ventricles beat so rapidly that no effective cardiac pumping occurs. This rapid beating may lead to sudden death and a high energy shock needs to be administered to save the patient’s life. This is a life threatening condition which occurs in 10- 155 of patients who have a heart attack before and carries a mortality of 80 per cent,” informed the doctor.

A structured protocol involving radiofrequency ablation was designed by Dr Rao to treat such patients. Recognising this effort, Dr Rao was invited by the APHRS at the congress, which was attended by 5,000 delegates from USA, Europe and Asia. “It was a distinguished honour to discuss the treatment designed in India for this challenging clinical condition with world experts,” he said about the event.
