Hyderabad: MAA ENT Hospital had treated a rare case of tumour on a 60-year-old woman successfully without any major surgery. The woman had a complain of ringing sensation of sound in the left ear for last 10 years.

She has visited many ENT doctors who had diagnosed that she has a tumour in her ear and suggested going for a surgery at Mumbai. Meanwhile, she has developed facial paralysis on the left side four months back. It was diagnosed as Glomus Jugular tumour which originated from major vessels of the neck called internal jugular vein and extending to skull base.

It was involving the carotid artery which is a major artery for the blood supply to the brain and head. On January 27, a team of ENT Surgeons of MAA ENT Hospital, comprising Dr K R Meghanadh, Dr R Vidyasagar, Dr Amitava, and Dr Sandip, successfully operated this tumour without any major complication. It was removed from the skull base, internal jugular vein, middle ear and carotid artery. The facial nerve that was engulfed and damaged by the tumour was repaired by a cable graft and it is expected to recover in future. The patient is doing well now.
