Falaknuma ROB yet to take off
Works pertaining to the expansion of Falaknuma Railway Over Bridge (ROB) have been stuck where those were at the initial stages. There has been no progress in the works for this Rs 250 crore worth project except the formulation of project report. Falaknuma: Works pertaining to the expansion of Falaknuma Railway Over Bridge (ROB) have been stuck where those were at the initial stages. There has been no progress in the works for this Rs 250 crore worth project except the formulation of project report.
It is learnt that GHMC has written a letter to the Railways seeking permission to take up the expansion works. Engineering wing higher officials in the civic body said that works could commence if the Railway officials give clearance.
It is to be noted that Falaknuma ROB is crucial for the vehicles going towards Srisailam, Shamshabad International Airport and other places. The ROB is single lane and there has been a demand for this bridge to be made two lane or four lane following the increased volume of traffic.
Locals are wary of the official apathy in speeding up the works since traffic comes to standstill during peak hours near this ROB. Sometimes it takes one hour to cross this only bridge connecting old city to the national highway ahead.
The project report for the ROB expansion was prepared by GHMC in the year 2015 but no work has been started on it so far. This proposal was passed in the Standing committee and council then.
The ROB was decided to be made as six lane from existing single-lane with an estimated cost of Rs 250 crore. This cost may increase by Rs 280 crore if project being taken up now. However, clearance from South Central Railway was not issued so far leading to delay in this proposal to be implemented.
