Finishing School opens at EFLU
Prof. E. Suresh Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, the English and Foreign Languages University, inaugurated The Finishing School on the Campus. The Finishing School has been set up with an aim to hone students’ social and business etiquette; develop their personality; provide training in soft skills and life skills.

The Finishing School has been set up with an aim to hone students’ social and business etiquette; develop their personality; provide training in soft skills and life skills. The broad aim of the School is to prepare them for the challenges and opportunities of life, broaden their minds for inclusivity, and the deepening of their cultural sensitivity.
Delivering the inaugural address Prof. Suresh urged the students to build on their inner strengths and channelize their energies to bring about a change in one’s thought processes and behaviour for the greater good of the society.
The Guest of Honour, Dr. B.V. Pattabhiram, a renowned psychologist, magician, and inspirational speaker, in his talk on Harnessing Soft Skills: A Key Requirement for Success, encouraged the learners to carve out their destiny for themselves as success is one’s choice, not turn of chance, an aleatory casting of some dice. Quoting instances from the lives of Mahatma Gandhi, Albert Einstein, A P J Abdul Kalam, Sachin Tendulkar, and Bill Gates he persuaded the learners to identify their weaknesses and convert them into strengths.
In the process of changing ones behaviour, the noted psychologist emphasised the need to hone their language abilities as English is the most important vehicle of communication. He exhorted the learners to incorporate the acronym into their lives: PASS—personal discipline, academic discipline, soul discipline, and spiritual discipline. Dr Pattabhiram’s talk was very well received by the audience. Prof. P. V. Amit Kumar, Director, Finishing School and Dr. Vinay Kumar, Coordinator, were also present.
