Tandur: People celebrated Bhavigi Bhadreshwar Swamy car festival in the town on Saturday night with religious fervour and devotion. Young and old competed with one another in pulling the chariot and hurling bananas at the chariot’s gopuram.

Popular belief is that people climbing on to the chariot and hitting the gopuram with bananas would mean getting their wishes fulfilled. Transport Minister Mahender Reddy took part in the celebrations and pulled the chariot. He performed special pujas to the deity. Prior to the car festival, a purna kumbha puja was celebrated.

The chariot was pulled from the temple to the Basavanna Katta, which is 100 meters away from the temple. Municipal Chairperson Sunita, TRS, TDP and Congress leaders and temple trust members and a large number of devotees took part in the meeting.
