Quetta : The security forces gunned down three militants, including a key commander of the outlawed Baloch Republican Army (BRA), in Balochistan's Kech district today.

Dawn quoted spokesman for Frontier Corps as saying that the security forces acting on a tip-off killed the miscreants belonging to BRA during a search operation in Dasht area of Kech district.

The security forces also recovered weapons from the possession of the militants.

The spokesperson also said that the militants were involved in killing of the labourers working at Shadi Kor Dam.

Further investigation into the matter is underway.

The BRA is one of the major insurgent groups, operating in Balochistan and is believed to be the militant wing of the separatist Baloch Republican Party (BRP).

BRP is headed by Brahmdagh Bugti, who is the grandson of Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti and currently lives in-exile in Switzerland.

Dasht Tehsil of Kech district is considered to be one of the sensitive areas of Balochistan.

For many years, militants in the area have been targeting security forces and pro-government personalities.
