Washington D.C.: US first lady Melania Trump on Friday held her first event in the vegetable garden of the White House, which was established by her predecessor Michelle Obama.

Melania was seen wearing a red plaid shirt and matched it with red gloves. She was joined by members of the local Boys & Girls Club, reported the Washington Post.

She explained the importance of healthy eating with the children and stressed the importance of eating lots of vegetables and fruits.

The first lady was seen harvesting red peppers, okra and green peppers with the children. The children also planted cabbage, cauliflower, turnips, carrots, spinach and lettuce.

Obama established the garden in 2009 as part of her healthy eating initiative.

She regularly held events in the garden and wrote her first book, "American Grown," about her experience of planting it.
