Nalgonda: Corporation is planning to construct sufficient number of godowns with advanced technology across the State, Telangana State Warehousing Corporation Chairman Mandula Samuel has said. On Friday, he examined the godowns of the State Warehousing Corporation at Nalgonda.

Addressing the gathering, Samuel stated that in the united Andhra Pradesh, the successive government had constructed only 2.9 lakh metric tonnes capacity godowns in Telangana as against 10 lakh metric tonnes capacity godowns in Andhra area. To fill this gap, new godowns would be constructed at Nalgonda, Palvancha, Khammam and Kothagudem with the total capacity of 24,000 metric tonnes. Advanced technology would be utilised in construction of new godowns, he added.

Stating that the Corporation has been collecting Rs 5 from farmers for the storage of 70kg gunny bag of paddy, Samuel announced that the charges would be cut down to Rs 4 per at the earliest. In addition to this, the Corporation would provide insurance coverage to the crops stored in the Corporation godowns. The Corporation would pay the premium for insurance coverage and no additional burden would be laid on the farmers, he informed.

Stating that the Corporation was presently managing 10 lakh metric tonnes storage capacity godowns in the State, he said the Corporation took 6.4 lakh metric tonnes capacity investor godowns on lease. Recently, the Marketing department has also handed over 330 Agriculture Market Committee godowns to the Corporation for maintenance.

Showering the sops, he said, decision would also be taken at the Board meeting of the Corporation on providing pension facility to the employees of the State Warehousing Corporation. He has assured of increasing the salaries of sweepers working in godowns apart from regularising the services of the contract employees. “ESI and Provident Fund facilities will be provided to Hamalis and workers after holding talking with transport contractors,” he said.

He further urged the employees and workers of the Corporation to take active part in carving Bangarau Telangana. Corporation Secretary G Bazaar, Regional Manager Rajender Reddy, TRS leaders, staff and Hamalies of the Corporation’s Nalgonda unit were present.
