Lakshmidevipalli: Bhadradri-Kothagudem Joint Collector Ram Kishan has said that Bengal gram purchase centres were being opened to buy the pulses at the MSP fixed by the State government.

Speaking after inaugurating the Bengal gram purchase centre at the agricultural market yard here on Tuesday, the Joint Collector said the farmers’ response to the government’s appeal to switch over to Bengal gram crop from cotton was overwhelming.

The crop yield was bountiful on account of favorable atmospheric conditions. As a result, the MSP for the commodity came down.

“The State government will support the farmers by establishing the purchase centres to lift the Bengal gram for remunerative prices,” he said, appealing to the farmers not to worry on how to sell their crop.

Later, he interacted with farmers, where a farmer from Regalla said he raised Bengal gram as an intercrop and earned profits.

Market committee secretary Nirmala, chairman Harilal, Food Corporation of India Managing Director Ranga Rao, Telangana State Markfed divisional manager Mahesh Kumar and others were present at the inaugural function.
