Lawmakers skip Khammam ZP meeting

Except for the Congress Legislature Party Deputy Leader Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy, none of the 10 legislators of the undivided Khammam district and both the MPs attended the meeting.
The meeting that started at 11 am didn't discuss any issue at length with the chairperson Gadipally Kavitha refusing to allow a debate on farmers' issues as demanded by the Opposition members.
The meeting ended in just two-and-a-half-hour. The Opposition members appeared in no mood to discuss agenda items - Haritha Haram, MGNREGS, drinking water and Mission Kakatiya - as they were hell bent on a discussion on chilli growers’ problems and arrest of farmers in connection with the Khammam market yard attack.
With the chairperson adamant to it, the Opposition ZPTCs staged a walkout. Later, Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy staged a protest near Gandhi statue demanding the government to withdraw the cases against the chilli farmers, who were recently released on bail.
Reddy demanded the government to resume the operations at the market yard besides making arrangements to purchase the chilli through its agencies. He criticised the government for its failure to address the drinking water crisis in Khammam district.
CPI co-option member Moulana demanded an unconditional apology from the government for handcuffing the chilli farmers. Gouni Ailaiah, Bayyaram ZPTC, and Yellandu ZPTC Chandra Aruna accused the government of bulldozing the rights of farmers.
