He said the Ganja is being brought to Hyderabad from Odisha via Visakhapatnam, Srikakulam, Vijayanagaram and Khammam districts. It is smuggled to Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Tamil Nadu from Telangana. On Monday, the Choutuppal police seized 84 kg of contraband from a car that was heading towards Hyderabad during regular vehicle check.

Police arrested the car driver Beraka Prakash, a native of Venkateshwara Apartment of Kisan Nagar of Rajamundry town in East Godavari district and Polupati Sathi Babu. The value of the seized Ganja is about Rs 8.40 lakh in open market.

He further stated that peddlers were selling a kg Ganja at Rs 2,000 in Telangana, whereas it is being sold at Rs 10,000 in other States.

Stating that the Rachakonda police seized tonnes of Ganja in this year, the CP said strict vigilance and regular checking of suspected vehicles has been giving good results. “Stringent action would be taken against Ganja smugglers and sellers and special police teams has been constituted to arrest all in connection with it,” Bhagwat said.

Bhagwat further lauded the efforts of Assistant Commissioner of Police Ramesh, Circle Inspector Naveen Kumar and SI Saidulu. DCP Ramachandra Reddy and others attended the press conference.
