Khammam: The Bharat Rajyanga Parirakshna Yatra, which began in Hyderabad on May 13, will cover all the districts to create awareness among the people about the need to protect the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities Act), according to District leader of the Viswajana Kalamandali P Venkatarathnam here on Tuesday.

In a statement released here, P Venkatarathnam said in protest against the verdict given by Supreme Court, diluting the SC/ST Act, Statewide awareness programmes would be conducted, besides organising rallies in peaceful atmosphere.

He said for preventing the attacks on Dalits and Tribal people, Dr B R Ambedkar had framed the Protection of Civil Rights Act-1955 which had been later changed into SC, ST Prevention of Atrocities Act-1989. But the Supreme Court in an attempt to curb the misuse of SC/ST prevention of Atrocities Act had given a verdict diluting its stringent provision under the law on March 20th.

He recalled that the Dalit groups had given a call for bandh which resulted in eruption of violence, leading to death of nine innocent persons. After visiting all the districts, a public meeting would be held in Hyderabad on August 15.

Representatives of the Viswajana Kalamandali K Sitharamulu, Raghu, Prem Kumar, N Alwar, K Narasinga Rao and P Ilaiah participated in the Bharat Rajyanga Parirakshna Yatra.
