Khammam: Vice-President of the State Civil Rights Committee (CRC) V Raghunath here on Monday demanded that the government release the student leaders arrested on trumped-up charges. The CRC delegation met the student leaders, Kancharla Bhadraiah, Manda Ranjith Rao, Gundeti Sudheer and Bandi Durga Prasad, in Khammam Jail.

Speaking to the media here at the Press Club, Raghunath alleged that the police had arrested the student leaders on June 6 at Vidhyaranyapuri in Hanamkonda from the residence of Bhadraiah.

The police harassed them by moving them to Wazedu police station and then to Eturnagaram police station. The police framed false cases against under Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA). They were charged under Treason Act also.

The student leaders were quoted as saying that they were threatened by the police not reveal that they were tortured. The Civil Rights leaders said the police had violated human rights.

Raghunath demanded that the government release the student leaders immediately. He also demanded that the government take necessary action against the police who harassed the student leaders. State Civil Rights Committee members K Ravi, R S Powel and District Secretary P Viplav Kumar were present at the media conference.
