Khammam: Deputy Speaker Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka directed the officials of Irrigation Department to take suitable measures to fill the irrigation tanks within his Madhira Assembly constituency by water drawn from Nagarjuna Sagar Project (NSP) canal so that farmers can get water for irrigation under minor irrigation schemes.
Mr Vikramarka held a review meeting at Prajabhavan in Khammam on Tuesday wherein he held discussions with the officials. Irrigation Department Executive Engineer A Prasad informed the Deputy Speaker that there are 21 tanks in Mudigonda mandal, 27 tanks in Chintakani mandal, 26 in Errupalem mandal, 16 in Madhira mandal and 12 in Bonakallu mandal. At present, these tanks have water up to 40 per cent. The officials have to prepare suitable plans for filling the tanks within three months. The Tahsildars of the five mandals have to work to bring coordination between Irrigation and NSP officials, he said. Several farmers in Errupalem and Madhira mandals have been facing problems as they get water from Zone 3 of NSP. The officials have to work in such a way that farmers of these mandals also get water from Zone 2, he hinted.
Mr Vikramarka also directed the officials of Irrigation Department to prepare proposals for developing seven irrigation tanks in Madhira mandal as tourist destinations. The tank at Mamnur has to be developed as freshwater tank and Mutharam tank as balancing reservoir, he indicated. NSP SE Appalanaidu, Irrigation EEs A Prasad, T Mallesh Goud, NSP DEE K Ramesh Babu and Tahsildars from five mandals were present at the meeting.
