Khammam: Communist Party of India (CPI) senior leader Puvvada Nageswara Rao is one among the few leaders who strove for the welfare of common people in the district. Because of his hard work and service to the people, the CPI is able to retain its strong base in the district. He has a special place in the political arena of Andhra Pradesh politics.
Mr Nageswara Rao, at the age of 15, plunged into agitations launched by Left parties for the welfare of common people. He expresses his opinions in clear terms on various issues. He led a number of agitations, fighting for issue of pattas to agriculture lands, house sites, for irrigation water and demanding compensation to farmers for crop loss.
If there are differences of opinions on issues, he differs with them only ideologically; but would not encourage accusations on personal matters. He faced many ups and downs in his political career. There is no change in his lifestyle and leads a simple living.
He maintains good relations with the leaders of various political parties. Whether CPI has alliance with ruling party or with the opposition party, he tries to use his influence for the implementation of schemes for the welfare of common people.
The CPI leader worked as an MLA for 18 years and made significant contribution for the development of the district. In the early 1980s, he tried for unification of CPI and CPM. Despite being CPI leader, he was elected as an MLA with the cooperation of CPM activists.
Even at the age of 75, Mr Puvvada Nageswara Rao plans massive agitation for establishing a Steel Factory at Bayyaram in Khammam district. He maintains the same energies and memory power as he was having in his youthful days.
The 75th birth anniversary of Puvvada Nageswara Rao wil be celebrated across the district on Saturday.
