The Telangana Cab Drivers Joint Action Committee has decided not to participate in the nation-wide strike call given by drivers of Ola and Uber over alleged non-payment of dues.

The strike starting on Monday has been called by Maharashtra Navnirman Vahtuk Sena, the transport wing of the Raj Thackeray-led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS). Drivers in major cities such as New Delhi, Bengaluru, and Pune, among others responded to the protest call as they are not able to cover costs due to the falling business.

However, the cab drivers in Telangana refrained from supporting the strike in view of the ongoing SSC examinations and possible disruption to services in IT sector in Hyderabad.

They said that their demands can be resolved by the state government and don’t need to resort to participating in the strike which would impact their livelihood.

Stating that bandh is not an ultimate solution to resolve their demands, the cab drivers stated that they need to repay their monthly loans.

Over 1.20 lakh cab drivers in the city are said to be not taking part in the strike.

Telangana Cab Owners Association is all set to meet Transport Minister P. Mahender Reddy along with the top officials of the Transport department and cab aggregators shortly to submit a representation of their demands.
