Hyderabad to implement new rules for solid waste management

Municipal Administration and Urban Development Principal Secretary Arvind Kumar headed the State-level Advisory Board meeting held in Hyderabad on Monday where this decision was taken into effect.
Arvind Kumar directed the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation officials to acquire a list of abandoned quarries from the Mining Department whether they can be used as dumping yards.
He also issued instructions to Pollution Control Board officials to inspect hospitals, malls, Hotels and function halls to ascertain the measures being taken for segregation and storage for solid waste further asking them to submit a report at the earliest.
With Hyderabad alone generating nearly 4,000 metric tonnes of waste every day and transferring to different transfer stations, the GHMC is making close to 2,200 Swachh auto drivers segregate dry and wet waste while the recyclable waste is sold at dry resource centres.
The driver-cum-owner scheme that utilises Swachh autos for door to door collection of solid waste has been directed to be implemented by all the urban local bodies.
