Bengaluru: The transport department will soon be monitoring the motorists who are driving public passenger vehicles and the commercial vehicles within the state.

On Wednesday, at the launch of the mandatory vehicle-tracking system for the new public transport vehicles, the transport commissioner VP Ikkeri had said that they are planning to monitor drivers’ behaviour, including rash driving and over-speeding. “We will also share the database with traffic police to take action against violators. The vehicle-tracking system will provide real-time information to the central server about the location, speed of the vehicle and distance travelled. This way, we will be able to prevent accidents as well as rash and reckless driving,” said Ikkeri.

Transport officials have said that the installation of vehicle-tracking system with emergency panic button is expected for the safety of the passengers, especially women and children. “The emergency buttons will be installed in public service vehicles and they’ll be connected to a central control room. In case of an emergency, the control room will receive an alert, along with details of the vehicle, including its location. This will ensure public safety and instil confidence among those who use public vehicles,” said Ikkeri.
