M Sarveshwar Reddy, managing director, said, “Since times immemorial, handlooms have been an integral part of our lifestyle. The diversity in our culture is reflected in the diversity of our handlooms. Each region has its own special. The choice of colours, fabrics, prints, weaves and embroideries bring forth the varieties of each state and region. Our handlooms were and continue to be a pride of our nation earning revenue and accolades from across the globe.”
As an economic activity, handloom weaving provides livelihood to millions of families and is the largest cottage industry. Rich Kanjeevarams, Crepe silks, Dharmavarams, Uppadas, Pochampally silks, Narayanpet, Gadwals, Paithani, Benaras brocades, and the Patolas of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat are available at the expo. Tie and dye of Rajasthan, Bandhej and Kutch embroidery of Gujarat, block and dabu prints of Rajasthan, batiks of Madhya Pradesh, kalamkaris of Andhra Pradesh, kantha and block prints of West Bengal, Kasuti of Karnataka, Kashida of Jammu and Kashmir are varieties that are available at the expo.
Maheswari, a resident of Jubilee Hills, said, “As regular customers for many years, we love the sarees of all varieties. They are durable, fashionable and affordable, and we these sarees are more appealing than what we find at the malls.”
