Bengaluru (Karnataka) : Tamil actor Ilayathalapathy Vijay's fans allegedly clashed with pro-Kannada activists outside a theatre in Malleshwaram on Wednesday.

The clashes erupted after the fans of the Tamil actor allegedly attacked a local for staring at Vijay's cutouts erected outside the Sri Radhakrishna Theatre, where his film 'Mersal' was being screened.

The screening of the film was also stopped due to the commotion.

Meanwhile, Kannada activists also staged protests in Mysore, where a theater was forced to stop screening of the film.

It is not the first time that pro-Kannada organisations are staging protests against a non-Kannada film.

Earlier this year, director S.S. Rajamouli's Baahubali: The Conclusion faced an unofficial ban from pro-Kannada groups for the remarks made by Sathyaraj over nine years ago.
