Hyderabad: The acute scarcity of cash in ATMs across Telangana has eased. State Bank of India Chief General Manager J Swaminathan on Thursday said that the RBI has pumped in money in the state and the SBI has ATMs with money thrice on Thursday in 70 per cent of the ATMs.

The official said that things are getting better, and normalcy will return in a week's time. Shifting currency from other state branches to meet local needs was under progress. Participating in the SLBC (State Level Bankers Committee) meeting here, Swaminathan said that the bank was making efforts to reduce the number of withdrawals and people started cooperating.

"Local RBI has been supplying cash and things should get better by next week.” he said. State Finance Minister E Rajendar, who took part in the meeting, appealed to all banks to ensure the availability of currency in all branches in the villages particularly to help the farmers to meet the financial needs in the ensuing kharif season. He brought to the notice of the bankers the plight of the common man due to lack of availability of currency in the banks.
