Rahul Gandhi has had his share of privacy and time for introspection. After 57-day-long sabbatical, the AICC Vice President returned home. His mother Sonia Gandhi had played her role as AICC chief to the T in Rahul's absence as she took on her party rivals who couldn't stop their tongues from wagging over Rahul's whereabouts.
Sonia also led her party in opposing the Land ordinance. The time Congress chief really got a standing ovation from her party members was when she lef them to former prime minister Manmohan Singh's house in a show of solidarity after the Apex Court summined him in relation to Coal gate scam. While the Congress was trying its best to downplay Rahul's sabbatical episode, questions on Rahul's leadership didn't stop. In fact only yesterday, former Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dixit Suggested that Sonia should continue as party president as she does not run away from her responsibilities.
“There are question marks over Rahul Gandhi’s leadership qualities.
For revival of Congress, Sonia Gandhi should continue to lead the party. She doesn’t run away from her responsibilities and can be relied on,” she said.
Of course she was forced to eat her own words later after facing flak from congress leaders for criticizing Rahul's capability.
The first hint of Rahul's return came when Congress announced that the AICC Vice-President will lead the farmers' rally against Land Acquisition Amendment Bill on April 19.
But the question still remains as to what next for Rahul after the Kisan rally. It would be interesting to see if the introspection and meditation at Yangon did change Rahul's perspective and if he is willing to take on more responsbilities and be more hands on with party activities.
