After the upgradation of Nizamabad town to the level of a city, the Nizamabad municipality with 35 municipal wards was also upgraded into a municipal corporation with 50 municipal wards in the year 2005. As a result, there was a rise in the number of employees in the corporation. 

Nizamabad: After the upgradation of Nizamabad town to the level of a city, the Nizamabad municipality with 35 municipal wards was also upgraded into a municipal corporation with 50 municipal wards in the year 2005. As a result, there was a rise in the number of employees in the corporation.

However, the building that houses the municipal corporation has become extremely congested as it has not been renovated yet and due to the paucity of space, some of the staff members are forced to work while standing.

Additional rooms have not been added, despite the fact that the number of employees rising gradually over the years.

During the previous Congress regime in the undivided State of Andhra Pradesh, a proposal was sent to the State Government to sanction Rs 3.78 crore for the construction of a new building but only Rs 1. 5 crore was sanctioned in the year 2009.

Construction works began for te4h new building with the funds available, but they had to be stopped after spending the entire amount. No additional funds were released.

After the formation of the Telangana State, the government sanctioned Rs 5 crore to take up the construction work.

However, the local leaders are not showing any interest in completing the works. They fear a Vaastu dosham for the new building and left the work incomplete. Moreover, the building has become a haven for anti-social elements, especially during nights.

While the construction of the building was completed, doors have to be set-up and interior designing should be done.

Spacious rooms have been constructed for the top officials of the Corporation like the Mayor, Municipal Corporation Commissioner and others. While the old building is congested, the employees fear to move into the new building due to Vaastu issues.

However, some of the employees who do not believe in such superstitions were highly critical for leaving the new building unoccupied, thus wasting lot of public funds.

Speaking to The Hans India here on Tuesday, Nizamabad Mayor Akula Sujatha said that they would definitely move into the new building despite the prevalence of Vaastudosham.

She said that the present building was extremely congested and cannot accommodate all the employees, furniture and equipment.
