Sultanabad: The temple of Lord Venkateswara Swamy at Bhupathipur has a specialty. According to sayings, Lord Venkateswara was self-manifested five centuries ago on the hillocks on the outskirts of Bhupathipur village in Peddapalli district.

The specialty of this temple is that devotees cannot see the deity in normal daylight. The deity could be seen only under hot sun around 12 noon when the sun rays directly fall on the deity. Even then, the deity can be seen only for 10 minutes.

The village former sarpanch Pacha Mallaiah said that when cholera was prevalent in the village, people left the village and took shelter on the hillocks. All those, who escaped to the hillocks, were not affected by the cholera, he said. The villagers still believe that Lord Venkateswara appeared in the dream of a villager and assured to protect the villagers from the epidemic.

Then the Lord self-manifested as Bhupati in the village and hence the village was called as Bhupathipur. The villagers believe that they are leading a healthy and comfortable life free from diseases and other problems only because of Lord Venkateswara. Mallaiah appealed the State government for financial support to construct a temple to Lord Venkateswara.

People from various places visit Lord Venkateswara on the hillock to fulfill their vows. Special pujas and fairs would be conducted on festive occasions and annual rituals also would be conducted.
