Nizamabad: District Collector Dr Yogitha Rana directed the officials concerned to prepare a summer contingency plan to tide over the water crisis. Addressing the officials of the Mission Bhagiratha at the Collectorate in the city on Wednesday, she said that the people of the district would face immense hardships due to the scarcity of water for drinking and irrigation purposes as ground water resources were depleting fast. She asked the officials to prepare and submit an action plan by March 21.

The District Collector said that the tanks in the district were filled up due to the bountiful rainfall received last year and hoped that water crisis might not be that severe. But, some of the villages might be affected, she cautioned. She asked the engineers of the departments concerned to make a thorough assessment of the situation in various villages and prepare an action plan accordingly to deal with any emergency.

Collector Rana pulled up the officials for their indifference in clearing the bills for the works which were completed and said that Rs.2.36 crore worth arrears were still pending under non-Calamity Relief Fund (CRF) and directed them to take immediate steps to clear them.

Listing out the arrears, she said that in Armoor, Rs 64 lakh worth works were still pending, Rs 15 lakh in Balkonda and Rs 5 lakh in Bodhan were still pending. She expressed her dismay that some of the engineers were drawing salaries without doing any work and told them to clear the arrears by Thursday.

Collector Rana said that Rs 16 lakh worth arrears were still pending in Nizamabad district and warned the engineers that their services would be terminated if they failed to clear them.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Engineer of the Rural Water Supply (RWS) Department Vijaypal Reddy told the officials not to put forward proposals in the action plan for the sanctioning of non-CRF funds to tide over the water crisis during this summer.

Mission Bhagiratha Chief Engineer Jaganmohan Reddy told the executive engineers, assistant engineers and contractors to work with responsibility, sincerity and commitment. Otherwise, show-cause notices would be issued to them, he warned.

Several engineers and deputy engineers of Mission Bhagiratha the RWS were present on the occasion.
