Mumbai : The city today witnessed the flagging off of a 3500-km long Cyclothon involving hundreds of avid cyclists but with a different and unique cause, raise funds to support the underprivileged and meritorious law students.

Being organised by Rotary Club of Worli, with support of a host of organisations and leading law firms like SNG & Partners, the Cyclothon 2016 will be complete in 14 days, along the Mumbai-Pune-Hyderabad-Bengaluru-Kochi-Goa-Pune-Mumbai route and hundreds of cyclists will join from different points.

This unique Cyclothon was flagged off by Rajesh Narain Gupta, Managing Partner, SNG & Partners and SEBI Lawyer and NALSAR graduate Mirza Saiib Beg at the Phoenix Marketcity, Kurla, in the early hours of March 19.

Contributions of INR 20 lakh have already poured in ahead of the Cyclothon and the organizers are confident of upping the ante by raising the amount to INR 30 lakh. Mr. Gupta, who himself is an ardent cyclist and now officially appointed as the ambassador for the event by the Rotary Club, will be handing over the sum to the Vice-Chancellor of NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad on March 21.

“There is no dearth of talent in the nooks and corners of this country. We have a potential lawyer in every young girl and boy in several households but their educational aspirations are scuttled owing to shortage of funds. Cyclothon 2016 has been designed to create awareness about the need to identify the potential legal geniuses of our country and nurture a credible future legal talent pool through unique fund-raising activities,” stated Mr Gupta, who joined the cyclists in the initial phase.

Around 1,000 participants are expected to join the Cyclothon at different points as it traverses its course along a planned ‘legal’ path taking halts at various law colleges in the 3,500 kms, 14-day journey.
