Mohali : Rising Pune Supergiants, who have been struggling in this season of IPL, on Sunday suffered another major blow as Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh was ruled out of the remainder of the league due to side strain.

Confirming the news, Cricket Australia sports science and sports medicine manager, Alex Kountouris, said Mitchell suffered the injury during a training session and now he would head home for further assessment ahead of their tour to West India.

"Mitchell experienced some pain over his left abdominal area while batting at a training session with his team Pune in the IPL a few days ago. He missed his team's next game and the pain has not resolved. He had scans in India that suggest he has a side strain injury and will now return home for further assessment and treatment ahead of the tour of the West Indies," Kountouris was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.

Earlier, key players of the Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led team like Kevin Pietersen and Faf du Plessis were also ruled out of the IPL due to their respective injuries.

Marsh has appeared in only three out of seven games he played for Supergiants, bagging a total of four wickets. He batted only once and made mere seven runs.

Supergiants are currently languishing down to the bottom of the point table, having just two wins in their account.

They will play their next match against Mumbai Indians at the Maharashtra Cricket Association ( MCA) Stadium today.
