Vijayawada: In what was a bizarre batting collapse, New Zealand ‘A’ which was threatening to set a massive score after being at a healthy 70 for no loss, folded up in double quick to be shot out for 147 in 63 overs on the first day of the four-day first ‘Test’ against India ‘A’ at Mulapadu grounds near here on Saturday. Hyderabad lad Mohammed Siraj gave two successive breakthroughs to put skids on the acceleration and have the visitors at 78 for the loss of two wickets.

New Zealand won the toss and opted to bat. Thereafter wickets fell like nine pins, once Shabaz Nadeem and Karn Sharma took control of the proceedings. Each accounted for four wickets. In their reply, the host began strongly but lost the wicket of PK Panchal to be 50 for one. Ten runs later, Sudip Chatterjee also returned to the pavilion. Both fell to Ish Sodhi. The host went to stumps at 71 for two wickets.
