TS police get hi-tech vehicles

• As many as 100 Innova cars and 300 bikes are launched
• TS govt to fully modernise police force in a few months
• CCTVs in State capital for round-the-clock surveillance
• CM wants Hyd police to attain standards of New York police

Hyderabad: Chief Minister of Telangana K Chandrasekhar Rao launched the first phase of hi-tech police vehicles with much fanfare at Tank Bund here on Thursday. As many as 100 Innova cars and 300 bikes were flagged off under the 'Safe and Smart City' initiative.

Speaking after handing over 100 Innova cars and 300 bikes to the Hyderabad and the Cyberabad police, KCR assured that the State government would modernise the entire police force in the next few months. He also assured that the CCTV cameras would be installed across the city in a phased manner for round-the-clock surveillance.

Later, DGP Anurag Sharma said that the hi-tech vehicles would prove to be best in ensuring security and safety of the citizens. He assured the Chief Minister on behalf of entire Telangana police that they would stand up to the government’s expectations and leave no stone unturned to ensure state’s security. The Chief Minister expressed confidence that the Hyderabad Police Commissionerate would attain the standards on a par with that of the New York Police Department (NYPD) within three months. KCR congratulated Hyderabad Police Commissioner M Mahender Reddy and Cyberabad Police Commissioner C V Anand for procuring the hi-tech vehicles in a record time.

However, within minutes of the ceremony and even before the VIPs had left the venue, a mishap took place which left the top brass red-faced. During the parade, one of the vehicles hit another vehicle moving ahead of it. A constable suffered minor injuries. The vehicles suffered damages due to the impact of the collision and coolant tank in one of them got damaged. Taken aback by this sudden development, the officials had no explanation as to how the accident took place when no other traffic was allowed on the Tank Bund at that time. All that they could say was that the drivers needed special training especially when they were participating in a convoy. It is said that even the Chief Minister KCR and the police bosses expressed their ire at the mishap which had marred the occasion.
