The two-day inspection of blood banks state-wide ended on Wednesday, 109 blood banks have been booked by the Drug Control Administration for various violations while 132 blood banks were inspected.

The various violations include overpricing, poor maintenance of equipment, improper storage conditions, absence of sterility testing, improper storage conditions, non-maintenance of prescribed storage temperature, improper logging and under staffing.

A serious doubt has been raised over the standard of blood being supplied to the people in the state particularly in Hyderabad as more violating units are from Hyderabad. The final report is yet to be prepared as per violations booked for each blood bank and the authorities said that would take a day or two more.

After the notices are issued to the violating units, they will be given seven working days time to respond and take rectification measures. Their license will be cancelled if the blood banks fail to rectify and the unit will be shut down.
