Hyderabad ranks 7 in rape cases in India
The city of Nawabs is not losing its name even in the list of cities that topped in crime across the country. With as many as 18,940 cognizable offences and 126 rapes taking place, Hyderabad is ranked as the seventh city that witnessed more number of crimes and rapes respectively in 2014.

Hyderabad: The city of Nawabs is not losing its name even in the list of cities that topped in crime across the country. With as many as 18,940 cognizable offences and 126 rapes taking place, Hyderabad is ranked as the seventh city that witnessed more number of crimes and rapes respectively in 2014.
In the city with 77.5 lakh population (According to National Crime Records Bureau), as many as 374 kidnaps and abductions have taken place last year and 118 persons were murdered. As many as 4,266 thefts took place, in which 1,396 were automobile thefts, 58 robberies, 754 criminal trespassing cases, 613 burglaries and 141 HB offences were registered in twin commissonerate limits, the NCRB said in its report released on Tuesday.
As many as 57 incidents of riots were registered in 2014, in which 13 were student riots, 11 under caste issues and 29 other.Delhi tops the list with most number of crimes taking place, while Mumbai is rated second by the NCRB. Total of 97 cases of criminal breach of trust 2,557 cases of cheating and 42 cases of counterfeit currency were registered in twin commissionerate limits that contribute about 33 per cent of the total cases of cheating registered across the country.
As many as 393 women were assaulted making an average of one woman victim every day, total of 22 women were succumbed to dowry death, 115 cases of sexual harassment, 12 women were victimised of voyeurism and 35 women were stalked by men outraging their modesty and the data says that 1,289 women were victims of domestic violence.
In Hyderabad, 441 deaths by negligence, 421 deaths for rash driving and 47 cases of extortion were registered. In tune with the Chief Minister’s intention to curb gambling and other illegal activities in the state and especially in Hyderabad to transform it into a global destination for investments, the police swung in action and registered 190 cases of gambling, 68 under Arms Act, 28 cases of NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) Act and booked 117 cases under Excise Act, apart from 130 cases of immoral trafficking, 32 cases under Explosive Substances Act.
About seven cases were registered under Passport Act, 20 under Essential Commodities Act, 45 case of Copy Right Act, 386 cases under IT Act, which makes the city second in the country after Bengaluru. However the twin commissionerate police’s effort to make difference in their policing with friendly-policing initiatives was reflected in altering the Hyderabad’s rank from fifth to seventh compared to the NCRB data for 2013 and 2014.
