CM KCR to dedicate KTPP to nation
Having allayed the apprehensions of being power deficit state, Telangana is inching towards its goal to become power surplus with the 600-MW Kakatiya Thermal Power Project (KTPP) Stage-II is underway and several other coal-based projects -- Singareni’s 1,200 MW, Manuguru’s 1,080 MW, KTPS’ 800 MW and Dameracharla’s 4,000 MW - are lined up to commission in the near future.
Telangana to become power surplus
Chelpur (Warangal): Having allayed the apprehensions of being power deficit state, Telangana is inching towards its goal to become power surplus with the 600-MW Kakatiya Thermal Power Project (KTPP) Stage-II is underway and several other coal-based projects -- Singareni’s 1,200 MW, Manuguru’s 1,080 MW, KTPS’ 800 MW and Dameracharla’s 4,000 MW - are lined up to commission in the near future.
With Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao to dedicate the plant to the nation on Tuesday, the hitherto 500 MW KTPP, henceforth will be called as 1,100 MW power plant.Although the Rs 4,334 crore KTPP Stage-II project was slated to begin power generation in 2013, the plant works headed nowhere as it faced a severe fund crunch after the completion of just 10 per cent works.
It may be mentioned here that the Stage-II works were inaugurated by the then Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy on February 19, 2009. After the state was bifurcated, the Telangana government took the project on war-footing and was able to commission all important boiler light-up on May 31, 2015 and synchronization on October 22, 2015. The plant produced power at full throttle reaching full load on December 31, 2015.
The plant, which is expected to produce power at a price of Rs 3.50 per unit, consumes 8,016 Metric Tonnes of coal and 38,664 KLD of water a day. The ash generation is around 2,725 tonnes a day. Source of water: A 60-km pipeline lifting water from Godavari at Kaleshwaram. Speaking to The Hans India, the KTPP DE (technical) and PRO Raghupathi said:
“Although the power generation is on, it will take sometime to announce Commercial Operation Declaration (COD).” The unit is likely to be synchronised with the grid very soon. This would come handy for the government to ensure nine-hour power supply to agriculture sector.On the other hand, Singareni’s 2X600 MW units at Jaipur in Adilabad district are expected to go on trial run in March.
Meanwhile, the life of neighbouring Dubbapally villagers is miserable since the first stage of the plant that was commissioned on September 14, 2010 due to the fly ash released by the power plant. Although the villagers have been up against the plant authorities demanding either stoppage of the plant or their resettlement, the government is yet to take a remedial measure.
