The city of Nawabs would soon join the ranks of Paris, Tokyo and Hong Kong if the Telangana government succeeds in attracting the leading amusement park giant Disneyland to establish its state-of-the-art theme parks and adventure rides here.

Hyderabad: The city of Nawabs would soon join the ranks of Paris, Tokyo and Hong Kong if the Telangana government succeeds in attracting the leading amusement park giant Disneyland to establish its state-of-the-art theme parks and adventure rides here.

Officials in the knowledge of the development said though talks are a preliminary stage, they could succeed in convincing a senior business team from Disneyland Park to come forward with concrete proposals for establishing the project. "We met the team couple of weeks back in New Delhi and gave a bouquet of offers for them to set up an amusement park in Ranga Reddy district and informed them about the availability of ready-to-use manpower and technical expertise to meet their operational standards," sources said.

“We also informed them about the incentives being offered to industrialists coming to Telangana and those making investments in tourism projects and creating local jobs. A foreign private investor too has evinced interest in setting up Disneyland in Telangana on the lines of the existing one in Hong Kong," sources said.

“An international consultant familiar with the developments informed us that Disneyland representatives identified certain areas in the vicinity of Nagarjunasagar as they were impressed with the landscape along River Krishna. We hope to hear from them soon," the sources said.

Since the project needs land in the range of 300 and 1300 acre, officials have identified certain smaller land parcels in Ranga Reddy and the larger ones in Nalgonda district to meet the requirements of the amusement park. "With officials of tourism and industries department wooing investors from across the world to select Telangana as their destination to take forward their business plans, Disneyland Park would surely be a jewel in the crown of Telangana," said a source familiar with the developments.

Disneylands attracts lakhs of visitors across the world every year. There is a Disneyland in California and Walt Disney World in Florida, both in the US. A senior source in the Telangana government said that the project was at a preliminary, yet encouraging stage. "We will share details as and when things materialise.

All I can say that they are keen on setting it up in the vicinity of River Krishna before the river reaches Nagarjunasagar and also in Ranga Reddy district. Our officials are actively pursuing it," he said. Disneyland officials have already inspected couple of sites in Andhra Pradesh in 2014, following an invitation by TDP government to explore investment options in Visakhapatnam. But, with no further progress on that front, officials in Telangana are optimistic that the state could very well become home to the country's first Disneyland.
