Telangana to ink agreement with Maharashtra on July 15
Decks have been cleared to enter final agreements between Telangana and Maharashtra governments on inter-state projects on river Godavari. Sahyadri guest house in Mumbai will be the venue for the historical accord where Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and his Maharashtra counterpart Devendra Fadnavis will ink the deal on July 15.
Hyderabad: Decks have been cleared to enter final agreements between Telangana and Maharashtra governments on inter-state projects on river Godavari. Sahyadri guest house in Mumbai will be the venue for the historical accord where Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and his Maharashtra counterpart Devendra Fadnavis will ink the deal on July 15.
Under the agreement, the two states would take up Tummidihatti, Medigadda (Kaleswaram) and Chanaka–Korata projects. Irrigation ministers, Chief Secretaries and top officials of the Irrigation departments of the two states would also grace the occasion.
State Irrigation minister T Harish Rao said that though the Apex Committee meeting involving the two CMs was scheduled in Hyderabad, the Maharashtra government informed the TS government about the shifting of the venue to Mumbai.
The Maharashtra government gave its nod to the designs prepared by the Telangana government for the construction of Medigadda project at a height of 101 metres. Now, the gates would be erected at FRL (Full Reservoir Level) of 100 meters only. Water-filling to the height of 101 meters would be decided in future.
The FRL of the Tummidihatti project has been fixed at 148 meters in the meeting between KCR and Fadnavis held in Mumbai recently. All the issues regarding utilisation of water, submergence and project-designs were already analysed by the officials of CDO (Central Design Organisations) of the two states in detail and also approved hydrological and structural designs of the projects.
The surveys on the projects have been completed in April this year. Under Medigadda project, only 55 hectares of land would be submerged on the borders of 11 villages in Sironcha taluka in Gadchiroli district in Maharashtra.
