IT companies in Bengaluru have been severely hit by the crisis over sharing of Cauvery water between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. However, Hyderabad's IT sector has come to the rescue with software employees working between 12 to 36 hours at a stretch in order to keep the servers running.

Due to the clashes, at least 70 to 85 percent of IT companies in Bengaluru have been affected and two-thirds of the techies in the city dealing with critical services have been unable to work. Techies in Hyderabad have slept in office on Monday night and continued the same on Tuesday night too in order to keep up the business continuity plan (BCP).

While the work is being offloaded to Pune, Delhi, and Chennai, Hyderabad has taken the maximum load compared to the other cities. Being the third largest IT hub, after Bengaluru and Chennai, Hyderabad has a majority of IT giants hosting their secondary servers in the city.
