Wardhannapet (Warangal): As the public in Jangaon and Mulug agitating for creation of new districts, Wardhannapet also joined the race demanding creation of new district with Wardhannapet as its headquarters.

A JAC called Wardhannapet Zilla Sadhana Samithi and comprising Congress, BJP, TDP, the ruling TRS and others has been formed to fight for the demand. A senior TRS leader, G Rajeshwar Rao is elected as the JAC chairman.

Under the aegis of the Samithi, a relay hunger strike was launched eight days ago to press for the demand.‘Wardhannapet qualifies to serve as a district headquarters. The government buildings existing here can accommodate Collector office, SP office and others,’ said Rajeshwar Rao.

The local MPDO office is spread over 16 acres of land and 42 acres of government land is available for construction of government offices. The town is 25 kilometres away from Warangal city, he explained speaking to The Hans
India.

A senior Congress leader, E Varada Rajeshwar Rao said Wardhannapet has got rich history and it is headquarters to Wardhannapet assembly segment, which consists of 14 mandals. Situated on Warangal-Khammam main highway, the place has better connectivity too.

There are many religious places with historic importance like Inavolu Mallikarjuna Swamy and its annual Brahmotsavam held from January to till Ugadi in April attracts devotees from across the country.

It was proposed to create Warangal urban and rural districts, while the latter to be called as Kakatiya district. The government should name Wardhannapet district as Kakatiya district, he demanded.

The mandal has got a Nizams’ era airstrip at Mamnoor. Enumamula agriculture market, the second biggest in Asia falls under the mandal and an Apparel Park, IT incubator centre are sanctioned for the constituency, the Congress leader said.

On the demand by Narsampet people, who wanted Warangal rural district headquarters to be located at their town, Varada Rajeshwar Rao said everyone has a right to ask but the government has to take a wise decision by weighing pros and cons.
