Hyderabad doctor performs rare coronary bypass surgery

Creating history in medical field, the world’s first Coronary Bypass Surgery in “Mesocardia” was performed in Hyderabad on September 17. Dr Prateek Bhatnagar along with his team at Sunshine Hospital, Secunderabad operated on a patient Mohd Mahboob Shamsuddin through the technique of total arterial revascularisation (LIMA – Radial Y graft) with beating heart surgery.

The heart was neither stopped nor cut anywhere during the entire operation. Mesocardia is a very rare medical condition in which the heart is rotated, pointing to the centre of the chest and this condition is found in 2 out of 1 lakh people. Patient has recovered smoothly and was discharged on Saturday.
