Warangal cops fear injustice in promotions
Notwithstanding the hue and cry raised by a group of police officials, especially from Warangal Range, the state government appears to be nonchalant as it gears up to appoint DSPs, Additional SPs and non-cadre SPs required for the new districts on the basis of ad-hoc promotions without redressing a number of discrepancies crept into the GOs 54 and 108 with regard to promotions.
Warangal: Notwithstanding the hue and cry raised by a group of police officials, especially from Warangal Range, the state government appears to be nonchalant as it gears up to appoint DSPs, Additional SPs and non-cadre SPs required for the new districts on the basis of ad-hoc promotions without redressing a number of discrepancies crept into the GOs 54 and 108 with regard to promotions.
All that started early in 2014, a few months ahead of State bifurcation, the then Andhra Pradesh government issued the GO 54 and GO 108 for the preparation of state-wide integrated seniority lists of Inspectors of Police and Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) respectively.
Post bifurcation, the Telangana government promoted the officers in Hyderabad and Warangal Ranges based on these lists. Against this backdrop, some of the officials of Warangal Range found that the position of actual vacancies in their Range during the panel years between 1987 and 1991 were not taken into the count.
Reacting to the plea of these officers, the Director General of Police (DGP) ordered a probe into the issue. The then Warangal DIG M Kanta Rao, who conducted an inquiry, ratified the errors that rolled in the preparation of integrated seniority list.
The aggrieved officials also moved the Administrative Tribunal challenging the method adopted by the authorities in the promotions of Inspectors and DSPs. Following this, the tribunal directed the authorities to review the seniority list. Despite this, the issue has been pending with the government. Meanwhile, it is alleged that some of the top brass of police department is deliberately delaying the issue to protect the interests of some officials who got out of turn promotions.
“The travesty is such that the Sub-Inspectors of 1995 Batch of Hyderabad Range have become seniors to us,” an Inspector of 1991 Batch belonging to Warangal Range told The Hans India on condition of anonymity. While almost all the 1991 Batch recruits in Hyderabad Range as of now are enjoying the position of DSP, we still languish as Inspectors, he bemoaned.
If the government promotes some of the officials on ad-hoc basis in the newly created districts, we will stand to lose more, he added, stating that it could prove costly for those who are already nearing retirement. Meanwhile, as many as 30 Inspectors submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, who is on a one-day visit to Hanamkonda on Sunday, urging him to look into the issue.
