68 per cent garbage vulnerable points eliminated: GHMC

Hyderabad: The GHMC on Thursday claimed that it had eliminated 68 per cent of garbage vulnerable points under the corporation limits.
Speaking at Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI), GHMC Commissioner Janardhan Reddy said that they had conducted a scientific study of all the garbage vulnerable points (GVP) in the city and the initial studies revealed that there were 1,109 GVPs across 24 circles.
Through a proactive approach, the cutting edge staff of GHMC namely Sanitary Supervisors and Sanitary Field Assistants took up the task of eliminating the GVPs on a war footing. Through a mobile app, a real time data involving quantity of waste, type of waste, surrounding land use and reasons for the prevailing situation was collected.
The study indicates that Circles 1, 2, 11, 12, 13 and 18 performed remarkably well in elimination of GVPs. However Circles 4A, 4B, 7, 9A, 9B were found to be vulnerable, he said.
The Commissioner stated that the GHMC was on the path of introspection through a series of workshops, close group meetings and community interactions, to bring about transformational change in matters of sanitation. Ideation to implementation was the new mantra that GHMC believes in, he said.
Janardhan Reddy further said that the GHMC was driven by the approach of improving public perception, ensuring implementation of government policies and strengthening capacity building.
As sanitation was an aspect that affects people everyday there was special focus on issue of Solid Waste Management (SWM), Reddy added.
In this context, he stated that subsequent to this, a detailed analysis was carried out with reference to slum population, infrastructure manpower both temporary as well as permanent, and density of each circle.
