Hyderabad: The Consulate of Saudi Arabia is likely to be set up in the city. Ambassador of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to India Dr Soud Mohammed Alsati, accompanied by an official delegation, called on Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao at the latter’s Camp Office on Saturday.

The Chief Minister requested Alsati to consider the pending proposal to set up Consulate in Hyderabad as nearly three lakh people from Telangana were staying in Saudi Arabia for their livelihood. He also brought to the notice of the ambassador that it had become a big problem for the government to bring back the bodies of people who died in accidents from the country.

Alsati assured the Chief Minister that he would pursue the issue of setting up the consulate with his country head immediately. He also said his country was ready to make investments in Telangana and broaden the relations.

KCR recalled the establishment of Rubat by sixth Nizam Mahabub Ali Pasha near Kaba in Saudi Arabia to provide accommodation to the Haj pilgrims from Telangana.

The Chief Minister also explained about the Telangana State’s iPASS industrial policy and welfare and development programmes for Muslims in the meeting.

Deputy Chief Minister Mahmud Ali, State ACB Director General AK Khan and others were also present.
