Efforts on to launch speed rail services on Sec’bad-Nagpur line

Hyderabad: A 12-member delegation from Russian Railways here on Wednesday held a meeting with officials of South Central Railway on upgrading Secunderabad-Nagpur corridor for semi-high speed rail services.
SCR Additional General Manager A K Gupta led the team of officials, while Vladimir A Finov, head of Russian Railways Office in India, headed the Russian railway team at the discussions. Ashesh Agrawal, Divisional Railway Manager, Secunderabad Division, was also present.

The meeting was held following the signing of the MoU last year between the Ministry of Railways in India and the Joint Stock Company, Russian Railways, on technical cooperation in railway sector and subsequently the signing of a protocol in October between the two entities on cooperation in “semi-high speed rail.”
Both the parties intend to carry out a joint technical and execution study on the project. The project is intend to introduce between Nagpur and Secunderabad corridor the trains which move at a speed of 200 kmph.
The discussions centred on analysis of the Secunderabad-Balharshah section of Secunderabad-Nagpur corridor. The Russian delegation sought to know the technicalities of the section in terms of its engineering, geography, and traffic forecast, existing Infrastructure, etc.
The Additional General Manager briefed them on the salient aspects of the railway line and highlighted the average traffic flow of passenger and goods trains in the section.
Issues concerning various components of rail Infrastructure, such as civil engineering involving bridges, tracks and maintenance technology; signalling, rolling stock pertaining to locomotives and coaches, power supply, etc. also came up for discussion.
The Russian Railways delegation will be holding more discussions with SCR officials before inspection of the Secunderabad-Ballarshah section for two days to make a field study on the feasibility and implementation of the Semi-High Speed Rail Corridor between Secunderabad-Nagpur. Officials of Secunderabad Division will accompany the delegation during the Study Tour.
