District administration has proposed to organise “a mass bank account opening” programme on December 13 to enable those working in transport sector to open their accounts in banks.

Mahbubnagar: District administration has proposed to organise “a mass bank account opening” programme on December 13 to enable those working in transport sector to open their accounts in banks.

The administration has identified 3,500 persons working in the transport sector, who do not have accounts. District Collector Ronald Rose has taken the initiative to ensure that all the citizens in the district open their accounts in the banks. In the first phase, those working the transport sector will be given an opportunity to open their accounts.

“We must understand that the demonetisation has given us a good opportunity to switch to cashless transactions.

To make it a success, every individual must have a bank account,” the Collector said. Ronald Rose said the opening of the bank account has been made simpler now.

Anyone above 18 years can open the bank account by submitting two passport photos and Aadhaar car.

“We want to make Mahbubnagar as one of the first cashless district in the State. For this we want the support of people from all sections.

If every account holder can link their bank accounts with their mobile phones, one can easily manage their bank accounts and conduct online transactions without physically going to the banks and ATMs.

Though it may look difficult in the initial days, people can become acquainted with the process gradually,” he said.

At present, because of lack of knowledge and apprehensions about online transactions many people were shying away and they were standing in long queues at banks and ATMs.

To avoid this, the Collector stressed the need for creating awareness among people.
