Hyderabad: Minister for Health C Laxma Reddy called upon the doctors to avoid recommending too many tests and surgeries on patients.

Speaking at the valedictory conference of Osmania Medical College Alumni Association here on Sunday, the Minister said there was a general opinion that hospitals were victimising the people by recommending too many tests and were performing surgeries which were sometime resulting in fatalities.

The Minister said the Chief Minister would soon be laying foundation stone for a medical research building in the medical college complex at a cost of Rs 12 crore.

He said a limb change centre would be set up at Osmania Medical College. Two new towers - Kidney and Liver Towers - would also come up for providing specialised treatment, he added.

In addition, the State government would expand dialysis, trauma care centres and create facilities for kidney, liver and pancreatic tests in districts so that the patients need not come all the way to Hyderabad, he said.
