Corrupt civic babus under lens

​Hyderabad: Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation Commissioner B Janardhan Reddy has instructed all Head of Departments (HODs) to curb corruption in their respective wings or else face demotion.

The GHMC Commissioner directed the HODs to counsel the ground level staff in order to ensure transparency and accountability.

Highly placed sources in the corporation said that the Commissioner said that he has been directed by the State government to probe into the reports of high level of corruption.

He said the government was serious about the allegations and wants to curb corruption at any cost. He said the government has made it clear that those found guilty should be either demoted or sacked.

The earlier practice of suspending the corrupt officials or handing them over to their parent department should be done away with.

The reason for taking this decision was to stop such officials to continue with their habit after being transferred to other departments, the source said.

A senior GHMC official told The Hans India that some of the senior officials at HOD level were also under scanner of the Commissioner following complaints received from shadow teams and vigilance wing and other sources.

If they were found to be guilty, action against them would also be taken, the source added.
